The 23rd Annual Women of Achievement Yellow Rose Luncheon, sponsored by the Zonta Club of Jefferson City Foundation, will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. Zonta is an international organization of professional women committed to building a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy. Our local Zonta Chapter has made a commitment to the advancement of women by awarding Second Chance Scholarships to assist local women who want to advance or start new careers. The Second Chance Scholarship Program has changed the lives of many local women. We have awarded nearly $400,000 in scholarships to date!
As our 23rd Yellow Rose Luncheon Celebration Speaker, Senator Holly Thompson Rehder will share her story of perseverance and sheer determination. Growing up on welfare, food stamps, and Greyhound buses, Senator Rehder quit school at fifteen to help take care of her mother and younger sister after a devastating car accident. Getting married and pregnant soon thereafter, like so many other young girls caught in the poverty-cycle, Sen. Rehder decided that the life she had been born into was not what she intended to give her child. But unlike others who wind up mired in a lifetime of poverty, dysfunction, and despair, she used her resourcefulness, faith, and sheer stubborn American grit to fight her way out of the gutter. Two decades later she was a successful businesswoman. And today, she is a rising political star who serves as an inspiration to young women across the state of Missouri—and indeed, the entire nation—all while never forgetting where she came from. Senator Rehder works diligently to help so many others born into seemingly helpless circumstances. We hope you will join us as we celebrate women with grit.
In addition, we will honor a “Lifetime Achievement Winner” and twelve nominees for their contributions and achievements. Two of these women will be chosen as Zonta’s “Women of Achievement.” Please join us as we celebrate “Women with Grit.”
This year Zonta is supporting women-owned businesses at the Zonta Expo, which will continue in the atrium of the Capitol Plaza Hotel from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Space is limited, if you’re interested in participating, please contact Becky Miller at (573) 230-5527 to reserve a space.
